These pictures
are of the installation of the GMMG Chambered Exhaust on my 2000 SS.
|
The exhaust installs using existing factory hangers.
|
|
The only alteration to the car required for the new exhaust was bending the heat
shield a bit. I took the heat shield off and carefully flattened a spot on it
with a hammer using a piece of 2X4 as an anvil. The area that was bent can be seen
in this picture just above the pipe where it curves down at the hanger.
|
The GMMG system comes with a quality saddle clamp for the
intermediate to rear section connection. However to make the new system easily
removable and/or adjustable I used a 3 inch stainless band clamp instead.
I cut two 1 and 1/4 inch slots 180 degrees apart in the swedged part
to allow the band clamp to mash the outer pipe onto the inner one and make a tight, leak-proof connection.
Polished stainless band clamps are much better looking than saddle clamps too.

This is a picture of the intermediate pipe running forward from in front
of the rear axle. You can just see the band clamp between the
sway bar and the rear housing.
